Edit: Referring to the placement of a Mazda filter on a Toyota, not the seemingly difficult placement of the filter itself. It's actually quite easy to get too.

1UZ-FE starter is no walk in the park either.

Why is there a Mazda filter on that Toyota engine?!??!
And it seems like that is about the place the filter was on our 2000 Camry. Is this picture from your car?

2JZ-GE were kinda lame also, especially if super hot

Welp, that takes care of any want to do a 1UZ swap in the future.

holy crap, why there?!

huh, slick spot for it, with the exception of needing to work on it.

always good to have the car a little warm so the oil if warm for a change too, so the oil flows. So... you really cant win

Thank you, non-car-people engineers, for designing for "well, this fits" instead of "that's convenient to get to!"

man alive you are joking? I hope the 2uz-fe isn't like that too.

Leaky VC gaskets on the GM 3800 V6 were also an issue as they leaked on the front exhaust manifold.

Seeing things like this make me miss my Jeep. Everything was so easy to do, and any work besides the suspension/brakes didn't require a jack.
I have fond memories of trading out starters in the Autozone parking lot a few times until they found one that actually worked. Changing the oil and filter was a breeze as well.
Then we work on my buddy's mom's '04 Cadillac DeVille only to find the starter underneath the god damn intake manifold in the V between the cylinders. What a nightmare of gaskets and O-rings that was. You had to remove every injector and spark plug individually. To replace the starter.

Well to be fair you change that A LOT less. Had mine for 2 years & the starter was never a worry.

Ah, the good life.

Had to have mine done a few weeks ago. Aside from the thousand stupid plastic covers, they're hard to get to as well.

That's some BULLSHIT right there.

Yeah.... it's the same filter as a Mazda 2.0L/Newer 2.3L and 2.5L.

Yeah I had two. Put headers on the latter. Hated life. Always changed it cold just in case.

There's actually a ton of room up front.... I was just hinting at the fact I put a Mazda filter on my Toyota. It was easier to see the side from that angle.

Was GM copying off Toyota with the Northstar?
